Rivendell Rivendell is located at the edge of a narrow gorge of the Bruinen River (one of the main approaches to Rivendell comes from a nearby ford of Bruinen), but well hidden in the moorlands and foothills of the Hithaeglir or the Misty Mountains. River Bruinen Bruinen or Loudwater is a river which appears in The Hobbit as well as The Lord of the Rings. The Bruinen began with two tributaries in the Misty Mountains, one of them was began at the High Pass where Goblin-town was later dug. The river formed the southern border of the Kingdom of Arnor and later the petty-realm of Rhudaur, south of it lay Eregion or Hollin. The southern arm of the Bruinen flowed through the deep valley where Elrond founded the refuge of Imladris or Rivendell. Elrond had some control over the river. The Bruinen had only one point where it could be passed, a Ford near Rivendell. This Ford and by extension the river were called the Edge of the Wild. Moderator: Eran Linwëlin

Mitheithel The long river that rose in the icy north of Middle-earth, in the Misty Mountains about a hundred miles north of Rivendell. It flowed southwestwards through the lands that had once been held by the kingdom of Rhudaur, round the woodland region of the Trollshaws. Passing beneath the Last Bridge on the East-West Road, it flowed on into the south, until it met the Glanduin above Tharbad to form the River Gwathló (or Greyflood).
